Course Introduction

Judith Molyneux’s interior design course is an online course that teaches the skills required to enter and excel in the interior design world.

Built around six carefully curated units, the course teaches key knowledge and skills that are used by home interior decorators, professionals working in interior decor sales and self-employed consultants.

The course is run by professional Australian interior designer and consultant, Judith Molyneux, and offers a certificate of attainment upon completion that is supplemented by the finalisation of your design portfolio

Unit 1: Exploring the use of colour for interior spaces

The study and knowledge of colour theory is essential in developing meaningful colour schemes that impact positively on people’s experience of the interior space. You will also learn the physio-psychological impact of colour and how to adapt colours to influence mood and well-being.

Unit 2: Windows and window treatments

Window selections have a major impact on home design. This unit teaches how to select window designs and their impact on spatial air quality and ultimately contribute to the visual harmony and physical comfort of the home internally and externally.

Unit 3: Floors and floor treatments

Floor treatments are the most brutalised finishes in homes. This unit covers essential criteria for flooring selections, and how to achieve longevity and lasting beauty around different areas of the home throughout the seasons of the year.

Unit 4: Accessories

Accessories personalise our homes making it uniquely “ours”. Accessorising a home successfully is knowing how to use composition, light and focus to reflect various personalities living within, or the exhibition and presentation of a favourite collection of artifacts.

Unit 5: Design for domestic space

This unit teaches the practical steps required to understand the anthropometrics and ergonomics of spatial design in order to advise furniture recommendations to clients, subcontractors and suppliers in a design project.

Unit 6: Advise clients on interior decor

The final unit teaches the skills required to create a holistic interior decor proposal comprising materials, colours, soft furnishings and accessories for different spaces in the home. This unit is submitted as the final major assessment.
